In his youth, he was mostly interested in musical theater, starring in plays during his high school years. After graduating from high school, he decided to pursue his passion and attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. However, after being gifted an old guitar by a friend he took up songwriting and soon dropped out of the academy. Jason moved back to Virginia and enrolled in university classes; though, instead of attending college he chased a music career and resettled in San Diego, where he started performing in coffeehouses.

First albums

In 2001, the guitarist and singer-songwriter signed a record deal with Elektra Records and moved to Los Angeles. A year later he released his debut album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come, which was pretty well received. Its lead single “The Remedy (I Won’t Worry)” was to be Jason Mraz’s first top 10 song. After extensive touring and the release of his second album Mr. A–Z, his third album was issued in 2008: We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things did exceptionally well, also beyond the U.S. borders. This was, most definitely, due to its inclusion of the single “I’m Yours”, a tremendously popular song nominated for a Grammy and getting the Song of the Year Award handed out by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in 2010.
