Gorillaz Akkoorden
This British virtual band was created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn — also the lead singer of Blur — and artist Jamie Hewlett. In 2016 they were joined by music producer, art director, percussionist and voice actor, Remi Kabaka Jr. You’ll find all Gorillaz chords here at Chordify.
Imagined universe
The fictional group consists of the four animated members Stuart Harold “2-D” Pot (lead vocals and keyboard), Murdoc Niccals (bass), Noodle (lead guitar and occasional lead and backing vocals) and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion). Each of the characters has an extensive backstory and even the dynamics among band members have been carefully thought through. For example, Murdoc, who was in charge of most conception and formation of the group, resents 2-D for being the frontman of the band. The imagined universe the band members live in is showcased in music videos, interviews and short cartoons. The Gorillaz chords and tunes that Albran, who is a musician, singer-songwriter and record producer, crafted are performed by an assortment of other artists. The list of musicians who have contributed to live performances of the band is extensive. Albarn and Hewlett came up with their vision for the Gorillaz while watching MTV one day; Hewlett said, “If you watch MTV for too long, it's a bit like hell — there's nothing of substance there.” With their virtual band the two wanted to comment on this observation.
**Awards and Guinness World Record **
Their EP Tomorrow Comes Today, which was released in November 2000, was the group’s first release. Ever since then, the Gorillaz have steadily climbed the ladder of success and have won several awards along the way. The most famous Gorillaz chords are probably those of “Feel Good Inc.” Their eponymous debut album, Gorillaz, earned triple platinum in the U.K. and an entry in the “Guinness Book of Records” as the most successful virtual band. When they got nominated for the British Mercury Prize — an award that is given to the best album released in the U.K. — the band actually requested to be withdrawn from the nomination. Their experimental music has been described as alternative rock, art pop, hip-hop, electronic and trip-hop by critics. With the chords on their second album Demon Days (2005) the Gorillaz got awarded double platinum in the U.S. and a whopping six times in the U.K.
